With Fords new Ecoboost engines coming up, they hope to provide consumers the option to add a I4 Ecoboost on ever car they offer by 2013. The I4 Ecoboost should provide V6 horsepower numbers, in the 200's, with the fuel economy of a I4. Hopefully we see this sooner then later because a Ecoboost I4 in a F-150? I'd like to see how that works.
Yo wheres the citing on this.
ReplyDeleteEcoboost I4 is basically the 2.3litre DIG Turbo (mazdaspeed Mzr 2.3) so expect 280 horse/280 lb ft or so, most likely they'll eco-boost the 2.5 litre, dont expect bigger power numbers just a nice boost in the bottom end of the power curve.
I doubt they'd put it in the F150 though, turbo I4 means it'll have to work WAY too hard to and turbo=durability nightmare...not a good choice for a truck b/c you'll always be dipping into the boost, i could see the eco-boost in a small truck though, I would love to see the ranger with a 2.5litre eco-boost and five speed manual that'd be a great small truck.
I definitely want to see the Eco-Boost in a Cougar, build it off the Mustang platform, put IRS in it, more refined NVH, ride etc, I think it could be an excellent seller, especially if it has an extremely nice interior and price it around 26k for the base w/ the eco-boost I4, 28-32ish for mid range w/ the ecoboost v6, and 36k plus with the 5.0litre v8
